7 Things I never knew about taking Ballroom Dance Lessons
1. Ballroom dancing includes Latin, Salsa, and Country-dances
Usually when people hear the word “Ballroom” they think of the Waltz or Foxtrot, but the “Ballroom” category includes so much more. Ballroom dancing is a broad term to generalize “partner dancing.” Partner dancing is any dance that requires two people to dance, one person that is leading and one person that is following. So if you wanted to learn how do Latin dances, the Salsa, and even Country-dances, most “Ballroom” dance studios would be able to accommodate you. For a complete list of dances, click here.
2. No partner is needed
90% of our students learn how to dance with out a partner. No partner is needed to learn how to dance. In fact your teacher will be your dance partner. This is the fastest way to learn how to dance. This allows your teacher to completely customize your lessons and focus on you and your ability. 90% of our students learn how to dance with out a partner. 3. No experience is necessary
One common misconception about learning how to Ballroom dance is that you already have to know how to dance in order to take lessons. But that is simply not true. At Arizona Ballroom Champions we specialize in teaching people with little to no experience. We make it fun and easy. The hardest part is walking through the front door for the first time. Every single student and teacher started the exact same way. We all had to take that first lesson. So get up the courage and call us at 480 442 9188 to schedule your first lesson!
4. There are Private Lessons
When people think of learning how to dance, they think of school, or a traditional dance studio that teaches jazz, tap, and ballet where lessons are taught in a group setting. When learning how to ballroom dance the majority of your lessons are taught in what we call a “Private” lesson. A private lesson is where you and a teacher learn one on one. You can learn any style of dance that you choose and you can pick your own schedule. The lessons are also taught to you at your level, so if you are picking it up fast you will progress faster, if you need a little more time on a subject, your teacher will spend that extra time until you get it right.
5. The studio is like a family
When you find the right studio it will feel like a big family. The nice thing about learning how to ballroom dance is that everyone was a beginner at some point and everyone remembers what it was like to take their first dance lesson. This shared experience allows us to bond together like a family and we get super excited and supportive of each other as you become more comfortable and a better dancer. The students and teachers are very encouraging and will make you feel right at home. We have seen many student form life long friendships because of learning how to dance.
6. You can dance on stage, in a competition, or even your living room
Learning how to dance opens up a lot of opportunities. At Arizona Ballroom Champions we always have something fun coming up. Twice a year we have two big “Broadway” style shows that we perform at Tempe Center for the Arts. If you have ever dreamed of dancing on a stage then participating in this show is a must! We also participate in a lot of local and national dance competitions. These competitions are an amazing way to push yourself to become the best dancer that you can be. 3 times a year we have what we call our “Mega Match” which is a mock competition. The Mega Match will give you an opportunity to try out a dance competition before actually competing. For many of our students the Mega Match has become their favorite studio event.
7. Work goes by slowly because you can't wait for your next lesson
This hobby becomes so fun that you will find yourself glancing at the clock waiting for your workday to end so that you can go and dance. There is so much to look forward to at the studio, learning the next step in your dance, seeing your dance family, hearing the music, and having fun while exercising. It truly is the best way to end your work day!
