The Best Ballroom Dance Styles for Couples
Ballroom dancing typically encompasses multiple dance styles such as the Waltz, Rumba, Foxtrot and others. These three i.e. Waltz, Rumba and Foxtrot, are usually considered to be the ‘romantic’ ballroom dances and hence enjoyed more by couples.
But there isn’t any one definition of ‘fun’ or ‘romance’ and every individual couple may enjoy a different ballroom form depending on what works for them. Ballroom dancing essentially involves partner work. Therefore most couples end up connecting and having a good time doing all kinds of ballroom dance styles. Some of the most popular ones include:
The Waltz is undoubtedly one of the most romantic ballroom dance forms and loved by almost couples, irrespective of age. But for young couples who wish to learn a graceful and classic romantic dance style, the Waltz is absolutely perfect. In fact, a lot of other ballroom dance styles have been developed on the basis of the Waltz. A perfect couple dance, the Waltz comprises soft, smooth and flowing movements and is a delight to both perform and watch!
Swing is yet again one of the most popular ballroom dance styles among young adult couples. It is lively, fast and uninhibited and has a stark resemblance to the Jive. If you like quick steps, you will love the Swing. This dance form is all about energy and the legs are constantly demonstrating a pumping motion. The basic format of Swing includes 2 triple steps, alternated with a rock step.
This ballroom dance form has originated from the Rumba and the Mambo and was first seen in Cuba (1950s). This is another fast ballroom dance style that requires the dancers to use very small steps. This helps keep up with the pace of the music.
The Cha-cha is known to be quite a flirtatious dance and is all about playing around and teasing your partner. It includes a lot of hip and knee movement and looks amazing when synchronized well by the partners.
The Rumba is popular as one of the most sensual and romantic Latin dance forms and involves an almost magnetic interaction between the partners. This dance form is bold and involves plenty of hip rolls as well as swiveling feet action. The Rumba has its origins in Cuba and is thoroughly enjoyed by young couples all over the world.
All ballroom dance styles have a unique character and are fun in their own way!
